Lookout Screens does not install the screen for you — and that's intentional. It's designed to be a genuine DIY setup that anyone can do. No tradesperson required.
Assemble the Clamps
Clamp A holds the screen cassette. Clamp B secures the extended end. Assemble both fully before attaching to your railing. Allow ~45 mins for first-time assembly.
Attach to Your Railing
Space clamps up to 3 metres apart at the same height. Hook over the horizontal railing, lightly tighten, check alignment, then firm up. Re-check tension after 24 hours.
Pull Out & Enjoy
Lock the screen cassette into Clamp A, then pull the screen left to right until it locks into Clamp B at your desired length. That's it — instant privacy.

Body Corporate / Strata: Check Before You Buy

What is the Lookout Privacy Screen?
The Lookout Screen is a portable, retractable shade cloth privacy screen that clamps to balcony railings, deck balustrades, and glass pool fencing panels — without any bolts, screws, or permanent fixings. It was invented by Australian Bob Brown, and is protected by Patent No. 201727963.
Will it fit my railing?
The patented universal clamp is designed for horizontal railings between 12mm and 140mm wide. It suits metal balcony railings, timber veranda railings, and the horizontal top rail of glass pool fencing panels. It is not suitable for vertical posts, round poles, or solid walls. Not sure? Do I need to check with my body corporate?
We strongly recommend checking with your body corporate or building manager before purchasing. Although the Lookout Screen does not permanently damage any property, some strata agreements may still require approval for any item attached to a balcony railing. We are unable to accept returns on this basis, so please check first.
How long does it take to set up?
First-time assembly of the clamps takes around 45 minutes, using a Phillips head screwdriver and a 10mm/13mm open spanner. Once the clamps are in place, extending and retracting the screen takes only seconds for daily use. The full step-by-step assembly manual is included in the box.

Which direction does the screen extend?
The screen extends from left to right when you are standing in front of it. The cassette (housing) mounts on Clamp A on the left, and the screen pulls across to lock into Clamp B on the right, at your desired length up to 3 metres.
What colour is the screen?
The shade cloth is Mid-Grey. This is the only colour available. The neutral tone blends naturally into most outdoor settings and allows light through while providing privacy.
Can I leave it out in the rain?
The screen cloth is waterproof and the clamps are powder-coated steel, so light rain is not an issue. However, we recommend retracting the screen during strong winds or extreme weather conditions.
