Privacy Statement
Lookout Screens is a small Australian business, and we treat your information the way we'd want ours treated: we collect only what we need to answer your enquiry or fill your order, we don't sell it to anyone, and we're upfront about who else touches it along the way.
This policy explains how RC Innovations Pty Ltd (ABN 90 154 463 546), trading as Lookout Screens and Look Out Portable Privacy Screens collects, uses and looks after your personal information, consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
When you make an enquiry — through the “Will It Fit My Railing?” form, by email or by phone — we collect your name, email address, and whatever you tell us about your railing: its type, approximate width, photos you send or upload, and any notes about your property (for example, “apartment balcony, 5th floor”).
When you place an order, Shopify's checkout collects your name, email address, delivery address, phone number and payment details. We see your order and contact details; we never see or store your full card number — payment is handled by Shopify Payments, Apple Pay or Afterpay, depending on how you pay.
When you browse the site, we collect standard analytics data — pages visited, device and browser type, rough location, and how you found us — through cookies (see below).
We don't collect sensitive information (health, beliefs, and so on) and we ask that you don't include it in enquiry messages or photos.
How we use it
We use your information to answer your fit-check enquiry (this is why Bob asks for railing photos — they're used to assess fit and for nothing else), to process and deliver your order, to contact you about your enquiry or order, to meet our legal obligations (tax, consumer law, record-keeping), and to understand how the website is used so we can improve it.
We'll only send you marketing email if you've opted in, and every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately. We don't send marketing texts.
Who we share it with
We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with the services that make the business run:
- Shopify hosts our store and processes orders and payments.
- Afterpay processes your payment if you choose to pay by instalments (its own privacy policy applies to your Afterpay account).
- Delivery carriers receive your name, address and phone number so they can deliver your screen.
- Google Analytics receives anonymised browsing data (see Cookies below).
- We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Each of these providers is bound by its own privacy policy and our instructions to use your data only to provide their service to us.
Where your data is stored
Our store runs on Shopify, whose servers are located overseas (including in the United States and Canada), so your order information is stored there. Google Analytics data is also processed overseas. Both operate under privacy safeguards, but by using the site you acknowledge this overseas handling. Enquiry emails and railing photos are stored in our Australian-hosted business email.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses cookies for two things: making the store work (your cart, the checkout) and analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site — which pages they visit and how they arrived. This data is aggregated and doesn't identify you personally. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings; the shop will still work, though the cart needs cookies to function.
How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as tax and consumer law require (generally seven years). Enquiry details and railing photos are kept while your enquiry is open and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you go ahead with an order, then deleted. You can ask us to delete your enquiry details at any time.
Security
Your information is protected by Shopify's platform security (including SSL encryption on every page and PCI-DSS-compliant payment handling) and by access controls on our own systems. No online system is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of data we hold small, which keeps the risk small too.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us at any time what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (subject to records we're legally required to keep). Email screens@lookoutscreens.com.au or call 1300 216 221 (Mon–Fri, 9am–4pm) and we'll respond within a reasonable time — usually a few business days.
If you believe we've mishandled your information and we haven't resolved your concern, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992).
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be flagged on the site.
